The Circus Live Review!

Click here to go to websiteThere's a brilliant review of the ITV1 showing of Take That presents The Circus Live on The Economic Voice Online by Richard Henley Davis, as follows:-

"In the 1990s Take That were the ultimate in boy bands second only to the Monkees. Boys hated them because the girls loved them so when Robbie Williams left it seemed like the end for Take That, but they carried on for a short period without him still churning out their soulless brand of music and when they split up I cheered out loud as did many males of my generation.

When they decided to reform without Robbie and something had seriously changed. Gary Barlow had turned into one of the greatest song writers of his generation and the single ‘Patience’ that brought them back was a glorious piece of work followed by the stunning single ‘Shine’ it seemed as though things could not get any better. But things did get better.

They penned the song “Rule The World” used in the film ‘Stardust’ and that cemented Take That’s muso credibility and is testament to Gary Barlow’s abilities as a songwriter.

The band went on to win the hearts of all the boys (now approaching middle age) who hated them all those years ago and are now bigger than they ever were and off they trundled into the studio together to work on a new album but this time all members were involved in the songwriting process. The end result was ‘The Circus’ album.

Where do I begin? I sat down with my family watching MTV to hear the new Take That single called ‘Greatest Day’ and I was numb after watching the video except for a tear that rolled down my cheek. I had just had a slap around my face from a song that was as mature as a vintage Stilton telling me to look around me and appreciate all I have.

What was going on? Take That had become the best band in the world.

In what reality could this have taken place?

‘The Circus’ album turned out to be a masterpiece with one great song followed by another oozing the quality of songwriting comparable with the Beatles. From the first song ‘The Garden’ sung by Mark Owen you are not so much taken out of this world but rather the world you’re in has a dose of magic and emotion injected into it.

Jason Orange is amazing on the incredible ‘How Did It Come To This’, a song that is too catchy for its own good and Howard on ‘What Is Love’ shows what a great singer he is.

I would go on about Gary Barlow’s contribution to this album but he gets plenty of well deserved recognition and good on him. He has retained his dignity throughout the years when Robbie was in the limelight with his great works and the press turned on Gary. Well he has had the last laugh and those futile arguments of the past are now well and truly  behind them.

The only ones coming with egg on their faces out of the Robbie Vs Gary debacle are the press.

Anyway back to plot, Take That took ‘The Circus’ on the road and have released a DVD/Blu-ray of the concert in Wembley Stadium and it is a total celebration of Take That with a circus theme behind the stage show which should, by all right,s be construed  as pretentious but it isn’t. The humble and gracious attitude of the band demonstrates the love and reverence they genuinely have for their audience.

The songs are delivered with passion and are faultless. The Boys even have a go at playing the instruments themselves and do a grand job of it (even though there are a few sligh,t and I mean slight, timing issues but that’s me nit picking as a musician) but the harmonies are exquisite with Howard shining through with his perfect pitch for harmonising.

Even the old songs that I grew up hating find a new leases of life as a bit of fun but the highlight of the show must be Mark Owen singing ‘Hold Up A Light’ which is just enchanting.

If you grew up hating Take That like I did then I suggest you listen to ‘The Circus’ album and watch the video live at Wembley so you may also get a slap around the face.

There is also a bonus section with a session in Abbey Road and that gives stripped down and intimate versions of the songs recorded after their tour. This really does show off the talents of the band as singers and the orchestrations are imaginative and well crafted.

Look they aren’t Led Zeppelin and they aren’t going to give you a 20 minute guitar solo but they are now a great band in their own right and yes they can sing very well."

Greatest Day CD in at No 3!

Take That present - The Greatest Day Album, has entered the Album Chart at No 3! Congratulations to Take That and their team!

Many feel that this should have been a No 1 straight in, it certainly deserves that position and that is not just us us being biased!

For sheer quality of original music and live performance, this album far excels those at No 1 and 2 (no disrespect intended to the artists concerned)..

Surely, if the DVD goes straight in at No 1 - breaking all previous records, then it should follow that the album would also reach No 1 because those buying the DVD would also buy the album?

Perhaps the time has come for the Charts to go back to the way they were once calculated, which was deadline Saturday at 5.00 pm and actual sales! Click here to see the Album Chart in full.

Children in Need Rocks the Albert Hall!

Click here to go to BBC CIN Gallery

Huge congratulations to Gary for bringing us such an amazing show! Children in Need Rocks the Albert Hall was shown on BBC1 last night, but don't worry if you missed it - it will be repeated on BBC3 on Saturday, 20th November 2009 at 9.20 pm. Click here to donate to Children in Need!

Recorded last Thursday (12th November) at the Royal Albert Hall, the concert was organised by Gary in aid of the BBC's Children in Need Appeal and broadcast last night on BBC1, the night before Children in Need Night. It brought together both national and international stars, who gave their time freely to support this wonderful charity, everyone who Gary had asked turned up, which is a great credit to him and recognition at long last of the huge talent he is, as the UK's top singer/songwriter.

Take That performed a number of songs during the evening, including Rule the World, which Gary dedicated to his dad and everyone who had lost somebody recently, it was a very touching moment. They also peformed a part version of Shine with Lily Allen to one of her songs.

The highlight though was when Take That sang Hey Jude with Sir Paul McCartney at the end of the evening, very symbolic seeing Take That peforming with one of the men who changed the history of music as part of The Beatles. The evening also saw Take That introdce "old friend" Robbie Williams to do his set. It is good to see that they are now all comfortable with each other and are friends again.

Stars appearing and performing last night included Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Terry Wogan, Annie Lennox, Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole, Lily Allen, Leona Lewis, Paolo Nutini, Peter Kay, Snow Patrol, Dizzie Rascal, Shingai Shoniwa, James Corden, Julian Lloyd-Webber, Katherine Jenkins, Muse and Chris Moyles.

There were some wonderful performances, particlarly by Take That (of course), Snow Patrol and Cheryl Cole duet, Dame Shirley Bassey and the finale of Hey Jude when everyone came on stage to sing the end chorus. Fantastic to watch, must have been even more amazing being there. The atmosphere must have been electric because that's how it came over watching it!

Congratulations once again to Gary and his team involved in bringing this wonderful event together, it was certainly worth all the hard work that obviously went into this. To all the wonderful stars who gave their time freely to do so much for this great British Institution that is Children in Need! Please donate whatever you can to Children in Need, you can donate now by clicking here. There is also a lovely gallery of pictures on the site from last week's concert.

Take That Rock the Albert Hall for Pudsey!

Click here to go to WesbiteTake That last night opened the show at Children in Need Rocks the Albert Hall, in aid of the BBC's annual Fundraising Week for Children in Need.

The star-studded show also saw Gary introduce Robbie Williams, who then performed solo material. When asked afterwards about performing with his former band, Robbie admitted that "something's planned". Sir Paul McCartney and Dame Shirley Bassey also appeared in the show, which will be screened on BBC1 on Thursday, 19th November 2009 at 8.00 pm.

The event, organised by Gary, raised more than £500,000 from ticket sales, which were allocated by ballot. After Take That's opening performance of their song Greatest Day, Gary told the 4,500-strong crowd: "What a perfect night for us to introduce an old friend." Robbie then appeared on stage before moments later being left to perform songs from his new album, Bodies and You Know Me.

Afterwards, Robbie said: "I started tearing up just before I came on, and the lads were singing and knowing it was just about to happen and knowing what the reactions were going to be like, and then all my team were like 'Please don't cry' a nd I think we should have milked it for a lot longer than we actually did. I think Gaz, in his wisdom, went, 'Right, we should get off now, let the lad do his singing.' I was trying to get them back to do a bow and everything. That's the first time in 15 years, we should have at least stayed there for 10 minutes."

Take That - The Photographies!

Click here to order now!The following Press Release has just been received from Penguin Books, ahead of tomorrow's book launch!

The illustrated story of Take That, by Take That - in pictures and words.

The pop phenomenon that is Take That was formed in Manchester in 1990. Throughout the first half of the '90s the band sold an unbelievable 60 million records, resulting in two of the best-selling albums of the decade: Everything Changes (which was nominated for the 1994 Mercury Prize) and Greatest Hits in 1996. Their rise to the top was well-documented in the media but in Take One they tell, for the first time, their version of this incredible story of superstardom.

Take One gains you exclusive insight into life on tour during those early years, with over 150 never-before-seen photographs. Glimpse at the world inside their hotel rooms, go backstage during their amazing stage shows around the globe, and see from their unique perspective the ever-present, overwhelmingly loyal fans that followed them everywhere – perhaps you'll recognise yourself...

To accompany these exceptional unseen images, a narrative, written by the boys runs throughout, candidly and humorously documenting the highs and lows, the frenzy and hysteria – and the often surreal moments – of the meteoric rise of the world's greatest boy band.

When Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen released 'Patience' on November 20, 2006, over a decade since Take That split up, the world welcomed them back with open arms to their rightful position at the top of the charts. Their return to glory has become one of the most exciting stories in British pop music and in Take Two they tell the amazing story of their comeback for the first time.

With over 150 exclusive and personal images, and accompanied by humorous and revealing commentary written by the band, relive first-hand the exceptional, and often heart-warming, experiences that make up the second chapter of the Take That story.

Kili Team Meet the PM and get an extra £2 million!

Comic Relief's celebrity climbers met Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Number 10 Downing Street yesterday, after all nine celebrities successfully conquered the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. So far The BT Red Nose Climb has raised over £1.5 million.

There was exellent news from the Prime Minister for the Team, when he announced that, as a result of the climbers' heroic efforts, the Government would give a further £2 million to malaria related work in Tanzania.

Gordon Brown said “Even when the country is going through tough times, Comic Relief shows us that Britain is filled with people willing to go that extra mile to help somebody else. People from every community and every walk of life who give their time to raise money for good causes. The stars here today have not just raised more than £1.5 million so far for Comic Relief, they have inspired millions of other people around the country to make their own efforts for Comic Relief, and it is because we appreciate their efforts so much that the Government will match the money they have already raised with an additional £2 million to tackle malaria in Kenya and Tanzania, saving thousands more lives every year”.

The Team then had afternoon tea with the Prime Minister, which was themed cakes and biscuits specially prepared by Downing Street staff that had Baked Something Funny for Money to tie with the Red Nose Day 2009 theme.

Gary Barlow said "It has been a privilege for the whole team to meet the Prime Minister today and under such special circumstances. To think that our efforts on the mountain and the incredible generosity of the public have inspired school children and have now been supported by the government is unbelievable. If the money raised can help control malaria and also help poor and vulnerable people in the UK it will all have been worthwhile. What an unforgettable day."

CLICK HERE TO SPONSOR GARY!Calling Thatters worldwide! Please show your support and help Gary raise a lot of money for Comic Relief! Click here to donate now!

Gary will be joining a team of celebrity climbers to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief! Kilimanjaro is the world's highest free-standing mountain, 19,340ft (5,895m) above sea level. It is actually a volcano (one of the biggest on earth) and if that's not scary enough it's classed as dormant, not extinct!

Even if you can only donate £1, it will make a huge difference to those less fortunate. In these harsh times, it is even harder for them. Just click on the picture above to donate now! If you are a UK Resident, don't forget to click on the Gift Aid!

Sponsoring Gary
means you're supporting Comic Relief in their work to help change the lives of people in real need across the UK and Africa; like in Tanzania, the home of Mount Kilimanjaro, where Malaria kills thousands.
Giving as little as £5 can buy a mosquito net that will help to protect a mother and her child from this devastating disease.

Click here to see full ChartLucky residents in Croydon have had Take That Come to Town!

The Croydon Guardian are carrying a report about the video shoot for the new single "Up All Night" which is being filmed today. For full details and to read the report in full, please click here or on the picture opposite.

We have our own intrepid reporter on the scene, Lynne (the mad one from Croydon)! She has rung to say that she has taken plenty of pics and will report in with more details tomorrow! The boys are chatting to Thatters, signing autographs and posing for pictures in between breaks - though it seems Gary had to leave the shoot earlier this afternoon and a stand in is currently doing his part. Could baby Barlow be on the way?
